Accessibility Remediation & WCAG Compliance for Digital Learning and Publishing

Accessibility is now a legal requirement on both sides of the Atlantic β€” and the deadlines are live. The European Accessibility Act (EAA) became enforceable on 28 June 2025, and US ADA Title II now sets fixed WCAG 2.1 Level AA deadlines for public universities and the vendors that serve them. For publishers, EdTech companies, and institutions, inaccessible digital content is no longer just an inclusion gap; it is regulatory exposure and lost procurement.

Dimentics provides human-led accessibility remediation for eLearning, digital textbooks, documents, video, and assessments β€” bringing your content to WCAG 2.1 / 2.2 Level AA, backed by real assistive-technology testing and a VPAT / Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR) your auditors and buyers can trust.

The accessibility deadlines that now apply to you

01

European Accessibility Act (EAA) β€” enforceable since 28 June 2025.

The EAA applies to organizations doing business in the EU, including non-EU companies selling into the EU market. Its presumed compliance standard, EN 301 549, incorporates WCAG 2.1 Level AA, and enforcement across member states is intensifying through 2026. If you publish digital learning content, e-books, courseware, or apps for EU users, they are in scope.

02

US ADA Title II β€” staggered WCAG 2.1 AA deadlines.

Public colleges and universities serving populations of 50,000+ must conform by 26 April 2027; smaller institutions by 26 April 2028. The rule explicitly covers websites, mobile apps, digital documents, and online course content β€” including LMS materials such as Canvas. This pulls in universities, their online-program managers (OPMs), and platform/content vendors.

03

Section 508 & VPAT β€” the procurement gate.

US federal agencies, and the universities and institutions that spend federal dollars, require vendors to prove conformance through a VPAT/ACR. In practice, no current VPAT means no consideration in procurement. For publishers and EdTech firms, that makes content accessibility a direct condition of winning and keeping business.

Frequently Asked
Questions

Accessibility remediation is the process of fixing existing digital content β€” eLearning, documents, video, assessments, and platforms β€” so it conforms to standards such as WCAG 2.1/2.2 Level AA and is usable with assistive technologies like screen readers and keyboard navigation.

Yes. The EAA applies to any organization offering covered products or services to consumers in the EU, including non-EU businesses. Its presumed standard, EN 301 549, incorporates WCAG 2.1 Level AA. It became enforceable on 28 June 2025.

US public institutions serving populations of 50,000 or more must meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA by 26 April 2027; smaller institutions by 26 April 2028. The rule covers websites, apps, digital documents, and online course content, including LMS materials.

A VPAT (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template) produces an Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR) documenting how your product conforms to WCAG / Section 508. Procurement teams β€” especially in government, higher education, and federally funded institutions β€” frequently require a current, tested VPAT before purchase. We produce evidence-based VPAT/ACRs.

No. Automated scanners and overlays catch only a fraction of issues and cannot deliver full conformance. Regulators have noted that AI and automation cannot remediate accessibility at scale. Credible compliance requires expert human remediation and assistive-technology testing.

Both. We remediate existing eLearning, PDFs, courseware, video, and assessments to WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA, and we build new content accessible from the start.

WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 (Levels A and AA), EN 301 549 (EAA), ADA Title II, and Section 508 β€” mapped to the standard and VPAT edition your buyers require.

Yes. We specialize in accessibility for education publishers, EdTech companies, higher-education institutions, OPMs, and K-12 content providers across the USA and Europe.
